Sub Ledger Consistency
Why?
Sub Ledger Consistency is a Business Central extension for detecting differences between subledger balances and the G/L accounts representing them, helping accounting teams identify reconciliation issues earlier.
What does it do?
Sub Ledger Consistency audits the following areas against their configured posting-group accounts:
- Customer entries and receivables-related G/L accounts.
- Vendor entries and payables-related G/L accounts.
- Bank entries and bank account posting G/L accounts.
- Inventory actual cost and inventory posting G/L accounts.
- Fixed Asset ledger amounts and fixed asset posting G/L accounts.
The setup page shows the latest G/L total, subledger total, inconsistency status, and last audit time for each area. Users can configure an LCY tolerance to avoid reporting immaterial differences.
Audits can be run manually or automatically through an opt-in daily Job Queue entry. The setup page displays whether the Job Queue entry exists, when it last ran, and when it is expected to run next.
Every audit run is stored in an Audit Log with the audit type, timestamp, totals, result, user, and company. When enabled, inconsistency notifications are sent through the standard Business Central Email module.
The extension also provides quick access to the relevant Customer, Vendor, Bank Account, and Inventory posting setup pages. Its extensible audit type model and integration events allow partners to add additional reconciliation checks.
Posting Protection
When enabled in setup, Posting Protection prevents changes that could disconnect existing subledger activity from its G/L accounts:
- Protects direct posting changes on G/L accounts used by customer, vendor, bank, inventory, or fixed asset posting configuration.
- Protects customer and vendor posting-group changes when the master record has a nonzero balance.
- Protects item inventory posting-group changes when the item has inventory.
- Protects bank account posting-group changes when the bank account has a nonzero balance.
- Protects fixed asset posting-group changes when the fixed asset has posted ledger value.
- Protects G/L account changes in Customer Posting Group, Vendor Posting Group, Bank Account Posting Group, Inventory Posting Setup, and FA Posting Group.
For posting-group G/L account changes, both the old account and the new account must have a zero balance. The protection covers primary control accounts as well as discount, rounding, tolerance, variance, disposal, depreciation, maintenance, and other configured accounts.
